PLANT CANADA (THE FEDERATION OF CANADIAN PLANT SCIENCE SOCIETIES) was established in 2000 and its 111
meeting was held in london, Ontario lead by The Canadian Botanical Association (CBA) and The Canadian Society
of Plant Biologists (CSPB) previously known as The Canadian Society of Plant Physiologists.
The goals of Plant Canada are to orga ni ze and sponsor regular, effective, scientific meet ings and workshops u nder
a national u mbrella for plant science and related disciplines in Canada; to operate and mainta in a strong
communication network among Member Societies and their individual me mbers; and to be a strong and effective
force for public education and advocacy in plant and re lated sciences, and for policy relating to plant research in
Canada .
By joining forces, the group can offer one large meeting with numerous invited speakers and other events like
teaching wor kshops, presentations from NSERC, etc. It ·further creates a loud voice and mainta ins a strong
commu nication network amongst Member Societies and their individual member s na tionally.
PC is already considered to be a national federation and it is a member of the Global Plant Counci l, which supports
plant science nationally and internationally. Plant Ca nada was a founding mem ber of the Global Plant Council.
The Plant Ca nada Board of Directors is made up of two representatives of each member society (nor mally the
president and past presid ent or president elect). Currently there are six member societies and all par ticipated in
