2007: General Information
Saskatoon is
located on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River in the heart
of the Canadian prairies. With a population of 235,000, Saskatoon
has been rated as the 15th best city in North America. We have a
reputation for being friendly and hospitable. The Meewasin Valley
Authority takes care of our riverbanks, ensuring that the 17 parks
and 20 kms of paved walking trails are kept free of development
and maintained for people's enjoyment.
Saskatoon has a
dry continental climate with more than 2300 hours of sunshine each
year, which is the most for any major city in Canada. In June, the
day time temperature will be around 16 - 23ºC and fall to about 9ºC
in the evening. Around the summer solstice, the sun rises before
05:00 h and the evening twilight lingers to around 22:30 h. Bring
a light jacket or sweater so you can enjoy the long evenings and
brilliant sunsets. Conference attire is business casual.
Saskatoon is
linked to other cities in Canada and the USA by an international
airport with Air Canada, West Jet, and Northwest Airlines as the
major carriers. If travelling from outside Canada, please ensure
that you have the necessary passports and visas needed to enter
Canada. Taxi service is available at the airport and costs under
$20CDN to go from the airport to a downtown hotel. Rental cars are
available at the airport and other locations around the city.
Plant Canada 2007
will be held at TCU Place - Saskatoon's Arts and Convention
Centre. TCU Place belongs to the city of Saskatoon and has been a
valuable contribution to local arts and entertainment as well as a
gathering place welcoming people from all over the world. Recently
renovated in May 2006, TCU Place hosts meetings large and small
with state of the art facilities for projection and sound.
